Effective cures must take into account the 'bioclimate', a concept which may be defined as all the climatic factors implicated in the beneficial effects of a cure. These factors include thermal and hygrometric ranges, sunshine, air purity, and the sea winds and breezes which produce negative air ionization (ionized particles present in marine environments and inhaled by the respiratory tract). All these factors show that a thalassotherapy cure is nothing less than a comprehensive body treatment. It must be remembered that the water used in the courses is natural sea water freshly-pumped from the sea and completely untreated: it is'living' water. The principle of the treatment is as follows: oligo-elements and mineral salts are absorbed by the body and constitute a 'reserve' which the body can draw upon for a long period after the cure. This also explains why the benefits of the cure are not felt immediately but a fortnight to three weeks later (the time needed for absorption and redistribution of the oligo-elements to their various points of action). What are the benefits of a cure? The optimum duration for a cure is one week with its beneficial effects felt for 4 to 5 months on average. A 4-day cure gives benefits lasting 4 to 6 weeks and a fortnight cure, about 6 months. Conditions treated by thalassotherapy: The 'classic' conditions are also the oldest:
The new conditions include:
In addition to the feeling of pleasure and relaxation, certain conditions benefit from improved symptoms for several months after the course of treatment.
